A Novel Flux Barrier Parametrization for Synchronous Reluctance Machines

This paper presents a novel parametrization for the flux barrier profiles of synchronous reluctance and permanent magnet assisted machines. In literature there are several methods used to design rotor barriers various types, however vast majority use only few parameters characterize their shape. These approaches proven be effective in terms simplicity computational burden required achieve an optimal design. However, simplified parametrizations certainly decrease degrees freedom when designing whole this paper, attempt increase freedom, introducing parametrization, is presented. The method proposed uses natural splines, defined by positions set control points, form shape barriers. spline state-of-the-art compared from both electromagnetic mechanical perspectives. results investigation show that increasing it possible obtain better performance characteristics. applied 6-pole motor its variant, optimized traction application. A prototype has been manufactured tested experimentally validate methodology.
